Spotlight on the Entertainment Industry

Course Description

Spotlight on the Theatre, Film and TV Industry offers students the opportunity to explore various jobs and careers linked to the Arts, Media and Entertainment. Students will meet industry professionals and observe the film production and theatre making  process. They will also choose a creative medium to create their own artistic expression and submit it to local film festivals and showcases.  Previous students have created animations, stop motion films, documentaries, and more. Students will also create action plans for how to pursue jobs and careers in areas that interest them.

This course is primarily virtual and will have optional in person field trips on Oahu for students to experience  various productions first hand.

Course Objectives and impacts

  • Practice and refine a storytelling technique (no experience necessary! In the past we’ve seen students purse animation, documentaries, painting, and more)
  • Gain confidence in sharing your story and/or presenting your ideas and projects
  • Create a network of mentors in the Theatre, Film and TV industry to help guide you in future careers in Hawai’i.
  • Learn from various industry professionals on how to work towards future careers in the Theatre, Film and TV industry
  • Create an action plan for how to pursue jobs and careers that may interest you in the industry

  • Meeting Times: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 PM - 6 PM, January 16th - May 10th, 2024
  • First Day of Class: Wednesday, January 17th at 4:30 PM
  • Final Showcase: Friday, May 10th, 2024 at 4:30 PM
